This Boardwalk Life (Part Two)
Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.
Tuesday, May 26, 2026 Entry #229
Welcome to Part Two of a compilation of posts I have written about my visits to Asbury Park, NJ over the past few years. Part One contains an introduction and nine entries. Without further ado, here are some more.
I’ll start again at the fabled Stone Pony. When I traveled to Asbury Park in the late summer of 2024 to see Springsteen perform at the Sea. Hear. Now Festival, I missed catching him at his favorite club by less than 12 hours! This post includes a video Springsteen made for the Stone Pony’s recent 50th anniversary.
During the COVID lockdown, Springsteen made a public promise that “when this experience is over,” he would throw a huge party and invite everybody. Springsteen is a man of his word, and when he finally had that bash, it took place in Asbury Park, of course.
Springsteen still loves popping up at some of this favorite Jersey Shore haunts, including his once-a-year visit to the West Branch house where he wrote his breakthrough Born To Run album.
This post is all about an Asbury Park institution, the “Tillie” mural.
Before you leave Asbury Park, you gotta soak it all in!
Whenever Bruce Springsteen shows his love to the Jersey Shore, he gets it right back!
Finally, Springsteen famously has a love-hate relationship with his hometown, including the most important institution in his old neighborhood, the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. His touching, hilarious song “In Freehold” says it all.
My next Spirit In The Night posts will go live with my coverage Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s much-anticipated concert in Washington D.C. Stay tuned to see what transpires when Springsteen v. Trump occurs up close and personal.
