To augment my report in this blog on the incredibly special experience of seeing Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performing on the beach in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the place where it all began, I have mainly used the video snippets I recorded. However, the still photographs I took at this show are some of my favorites among all my many pictures I’ve gotten from the up-close vantage point of “the pit” at Springsteen concerts these past two years.
Springsteen literally playing to the fans!
"Little Stevie," consigliere to The Boss.
E Street pianist “Professor” Roy Bittan seen here on the festival screen playing the stunning solo that ends “Racing in the Street” while Springsteen. seen here directly on the stage, listens and watches intently.
As close as I was (just 3 rows back from the stage), there is still a temptation sometimes to capture images as they appear up on the big screen. Here, Springsteen is playing with his back to the crowd, allowing the backstage photographer to show the audience a glimpse of what Bruce sees when he looks out at us. To Springsteen’s left is the ocean, and the fabled (mainly because of him) Asbury Park beach boardwalk is to his right.
To the delight of the crowd, Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt carry on with extended "I don't wanna go home!" antics.
I hope you are enjoying these pics. There are still a few more to come in the next post.

Thank you. I was way back, mostly because I didn’t want to spend my whole day staking a claim up front. As a result, I could hear fine, but my pictures are of the screens. But it’s wonderful to see your pictures. It was just such a special night. There will never be another one like it and I’m so glad i went. Thanks for bringing me back to that special time under the moon on the beach.
