Friday, September 13, 2024 Entry #102
Hello again. As I reach and go beyond 100 Spirit In The Night Substack posts, I am spending a few entries looking back at some of my favorites. I hope both brand-new subscribers and the long-timer OG’s (meaning, back to early 2023) among you will click on some or all of the posts that you may have missed. Again, you can always access all of them through the “Archives” button on top of each post. Without further ado…
Entry #46 contain my reflections on Springsteen as one of my “good traveling companions.”
For decades, Springsteen has partnered with food banks around the country to empower his audiences to help their food insecure neighbors. Entry #49 tells some of that story.
Entry #51 describes a huge highlight of my Springsteen adventures (and includes one of my favorite pictures of all time), taking my son to his first Bruce Springsteen concert!
Although I have been following Springsteen since I was in high school, a few recent events have somehow raised my fandom to even greater heights. One of those pivotal moments was Springsteen playing “Land of Hope and Dreams” at the Lincoln Memorial. The Boss opened President Biden’s inauguration celebration in the shadow of the attempted insurrection on January 6th. In Entry #53, I attempt to articulate the sense of redemption and renewal Springsteen brought to that poignant time
In New York to see Springsteen at Madison Square Garden, in Entry #54 I found some fun Springsteen connections to my all-time favorite neighborhoods, Greenwich Village.
Entry # 57, hearing the epic (and rarely played on this tour) song “Jungleland!”
Starting with Entry #61, I posted seven reports about my one-day tour of Springsteen sites at his home turf, the Jersey Shore. Entry #63 is all about the various Asbury Park music venues that were important in the early stages (and many remain so) of Springsteen’s career.
I have at least one more post’s worth of reviews to go. Stay tuned.
